Simple Install Tips
To achieve the best results when replacing your ZF 1269328297 Synchronizer Ring, observe the following technical guidelines:
Measure the Gap (Wear Limit): Before installation, place the new ring on the gear cone and measure the clearance (the “A” gap) using a feeler gauge. If the gap is below the ZF technical wear limit (usually 0.8mm for most Ecosplit models), the gear cone may also need replacement.
Pre-Soak in Lubricant: To prevent initial friction damage, soak the synchronizer ring in the transmission’s recommended gear oil (ZF-Ecofluid M or equivalent) for at least 30 minutes before assembly.
Inspect the Teeth: Examine the pointed engagement teeth on the ring. Ensure there are no burrs or shipping damage, as even a small nick can cause “notchy” shifting.
Clean the Cone: Ensure the mating gear cone is perfectly clean and free of glazing. If the cone is “mirrored” or burnt, the new synchronizer ring will not be able to create the friction necessary for speed matching.
Alignment Check: During the assembly of the synchronizer hub, ensure the three “locking” notches on the ring are perfectly aligned with the synchronizer keys (struts).
